I am from Hong Kong, China, and had studied in Hong Kong since I was a child. Later, I went to the UK for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. During this period, I also exchanged with US universities. It has been almost 4 years since I stepped into the society, from the engineer of a Fortune 500 company to my start-up. During this period, I found that I am lacking of knowledge about electronic control and artificial intelligence, therefore I wanted to broaden my horizon in these aspects. The original plan was to study abroad again, but for my family and career reasons, I gave up this idea. On the other hand, I had exchange experience in the United States before, I was full of longing for the US higher education. Later, I found out that Georgia Tech has a branch campus in Shenzhen, China, so I can enjoy the US higher education without study aboard.
The workload of GTSI's coursework is extremely compact, and the intensity is as high as when I was studying at Imperial College London. I took 4 modules in the first semester, which required me to spend at least 70-100 hours a week on study, eventually I was lucky enough to obtain 4 A's in the end. Although GTSI is a branch campus, the quality of teaching cannot be ignored. The professors are all from the main campus in the United States, and the feedback is efficient and effective. The teaching assistants are also very helpful. In addition, GTSI's campus learning atmosphere is very good, the school library is full of students from Monday to Sunday. The purpose of coming to GTSI this time is not only to fill up the lack of knowledge about electronic control and artificial intelligence, but also to apply for a part-time PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering through the ECE degree of GTSI.

Studying in GTSI presents student the opportunity to interface with people like colleagues and collaborators in the future, especially as we approach further global economy than what we are seeing today. We get the chance to experience and see them first hand. Seeing things that are new and exciting everyday is a different piece of Shenzhen.

My relationship with Georgia Tech began at the Atlanta Summer Program in July 2012. With hopes and efforts put into the college application process, I was eventually enrolled as a PhD candidate in Georgia Tech’s Atlanta campus in August 2015. During the three years of preparation, the year spent at Georgia Tech’s ECE program in Shenzhen is definitely the most unique and rewarding time.
Studying ECE in Shenzhen campus towards a master’s degree is by no means learning in Chinese and watching video courses. The faculty here consists of 100% GT professors, and the learning environment is totally American – including intensive coursework and exams in English. As a result, I’ve been trained to adapt to the classroom and academia in America even before setting foot on the country. More importantly, I’ve came to known my current doctoral advisor at in Shenzhen. Besides, the small-sized classes here enables better communication and mutual understandings between students and professors, which is something that the Atlanta campus doesn’t necessarily have.
All of my credits earned during my graduate studies in Shenzhen can be transferred and counted towards my doctoral degree requirements in Atlanta. This has not only saved a lot of extra time for me, but also provided me with an extra layer of comfort to focus more on my favorite academic field.
