Welcome Jackets! Freshmen Gathering at GTSI!
A new semester of 2023 has begun!
Now is the best time to embrace the limitless possibilities!
From August 17 to August 18
Georgia Tech Shenzhen Institute, Tianjin University
Gives out a warm welcome to both new and returning students for the fall semester of 2023!
Future engineers,
📣Gather around!📣
Students From Overseas, Hong Kong and Taiwan Have Come to Shenzhen From Far and Wide
At longitude 114°38′ East and latitude 22°32′ North
lies the coordinates of GTSI.
This semester,
new students from countries and regions like the United States, Brazil, Italy, Nigeria,
Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Chinese mainland,
will see this as a new starting point
to embark on a new exploration of "Overseas Study in Shenzhen"
Chinenye Adanna Udechukwu from Nigeria
may have endured the longest flight
amongst the international newcomers.
Her journey took her from Abuja Airport,
with layovers in Doha and Hangzhou.
She spent a total of 43 hours in transit before finally landing in Shenzhen.
Upon arrival, everything here
appeared fresh and unfamiliar to her.
But what Chinenye is most excited about
is the upcoming new semester.
Through GTSI's Master Program in Computer Science,
She aims to delve into areas such as machine learning that pique her interest
to acquire knowledge, enrich her experiences, and undergo personal growth.
"Hardware Upgrades," As Professionals Return to Campus to Upgrade Their Skills
The ultimate goal of an engineer
goes far beyond just finding a fulfilling job.
It involves continuously expanding their knowledge boundaries and generating innovative ideas.
Hence, among this year's students,
we also welcome those who are returning to academia from the workforce,
venturing beyond their comfort zones.
Lyu Jiahao, who originally worked as an architect in Shanghai,
recognized the industrial design program at the Georgia Institute of Technology
and its leading ranking in the United States.
He chose to resign from his job and started to pursue a Master's degree in Industrial Design at GTSI.
Hoping to add a unique perspective of industrial design
to complement his existing background in architecture.
This is not his first interaction with Georgia Tech.
In 2021, he graduated from the Atlanta campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology
with a Master's degree in Architecture.
Now, embarking on his second Master's journey
Lyu Jiahao is looking forward to integrating his new-found knowledge
to carve out a broader horizon in designing.
Hi, Tech Girl! 47 Tech Girl Entered This Semester!
It seems to be a characteristic of technical institutions to have a greater number of male students than female students.
However, we have also seen
a steady increase in the proportion of tech girls at GTSI.
It has risen from 27.2% last year
to 30.1% this year.
Among the new students on the Master Program in Analytics
is Wang Yihan,
who, before completing her undergraduate degree,
ranked first in the experimental class of the mathematics major at Nanchang University.
Due to her excellent performance,
she came to GTSI through postgraduate recommendation.
Even before the new semester began,
she self-studied Python
to establish a solid foundation for future coding applications.
When she heard that the number of female students on the MSA program outnumbered the male students,
she was a little bit surprised but delighted.
"During my undergraduate years, there were only 10 female students in my class."
"I'm really looking forward to being in an environment with more girls."
"I want to study together with everyone."
Welcome Bonus Eggs, Random Drops of Good Fortune
A new semester always comes with new experiences.
This year, at the end of the Campus Tour,
GTSIers can unlock the Welcome Gashapon Machine,
using a token to activate randomness
and see what surprises it has in store.
Unscrew the bonus egg you've picked,
you may discover: a USB drive, a bookmark,
a badge, a coaster...
Collect these randomly dropped gifts,
and they might bring you
good luck that lasts the entire semester!
Capture and Frame the Smiles of the Day
While exploring the campus,
GTSIers themselves have become
the most eye-catching scenery both on and off-campus.
The shutter freezes the smiles of this moment,
developing the most satisfying image.
Gently place it into a bespoke GTSI photo frame
to preserve these beautiful moments as cherished mementos.
Two days of orientation
only turned the first page of the 2023 Fall Semester at GTSI,
and there are many more exciting stories to be written here.
So, let's keep going together!
TECH MOVING FORWORD!
